How to use
- Enter the length in feet.
- Read the value in metres.
- Use the table for common values.
How it works
Exact factor: 1 ft = 0.3048 m, exactly, by the 1959 international definition. Quick estimate: multiply by 0.3 and add 1.6 % (1000 ft → 300 m → 304.8 m).
Heights are often written 5'10": that is 5 × 12 + 10 = 70 inches, or 1.778 m. Aviation altitudes use feet, so a 35,000 ft cruising level is 10,668 m.
Examples
- Ceiling height
- 8 ft = 2.44 m.
- Cruising altitude
- 35,000 ft = 10,668 m.
