How to use

How it works
Decimal (SI) units multiply by 1,000: 1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. Binary (IEC) units multiply by 1,024: 1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes. A byte is 8 bits.
Drive makers label capacity in decimal units, while Windows shows binary units with decimal names — which is why a 1 TB drive appears as about 931 “GB”.

Frequently asked questions
Is 1 KB 1000 or 1024 bytes?
Officially 1 kB = 1,000 bytes and 1 KiB = 1,024 bytes, but many programs still use KB for 1,024.
Why are speeds in megabits?
Network speeds are measured in bits per second; divide by 8 for bytes.
