How to use

How it works
The tool uses MODNet, an open-source image-matting neural network (Apache-2.0 licence) that predicts, for every pixel, how much it belongs to the foreground. The network runs with onnxruntime-web directly in your browser. The prediction is made at about 512 px and smoothly scaled back up to your photo's resolution, so edges such as hair keep soft transitions.
MODNet is trained mainly on people, so portraits and selfies give the best results; products and animals on plain backgrounds usually work well; busy scenes with several subjects are harder. Changing the background colour or format afterwards is instant — the AI doesn't need to run again.

Frequently asked questions
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. Only the AI model is downloaded (once, then cached by your browser). The photo is processed on your device.
Why are some edges imperfect?
Automatic matting struggles with fine details against similar colours. Photos with good contrast between subject and background give the cleanest cut-outs.
Can I get a white background for an ID photo?
Yes, choose White. Check the official photo requirements, which often also specify head size and lighting.
